The New Studio of Dance is a dance school created in 1970 by Susan Collard.  Over 30 dance classes are offered weekly as well as fencing and drama classes.  Students range from 3 years old, to seniors and adults who want to dance for fun, to professionals. Students of the New Studio of Dance do not have dance recitals; they are invited to perform in Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre’s children’s performances like The Little Match Girl and Fables, several times a year.  This way they can be involved in a complete professional theatre experience with lighting designers, costumers, set designers, actors, dancers, and directors.

  The New Studio of Dance is also used by ACDT to train future professional dancers who will be included in ACDT and/or who choose a performance career somewhere else in the world.  The Junior Company consists of a group of students in high school and middle school who are receiving world-class training and numerous performing and choreography opportunities. The members of ACDT’s Junior Company play a large part in creating their own dance program and on occasion apprentice to Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre.  All the teachers at the New Studio of Dance are well trained, professional, and inspiring.
